Thanawat “Shane” Promwaen jets off again this week ready to compete in the Formula Kite and TT Open Asian Championships in China. It will be the 9-year-old’s his first appearance in China and comes back-to-back with his recent 4th place on Jeju Island, South Korea.
Competing in the Kitefoil category against Olympic athletes and seasoned professionals is the experience Shane needs to bring him one step closer to his ultimate goal, competing in the Youth Olympics.
Shane was excited with his result in Korea, saying: "It was a great experience, despite challenges like light wind, and I’m happy of how I performed because I always do my best.”
Ironically, while a lack of wind ended the Korean competition early, too much wind delayed Shane’s flight out from Bangkok to China at the weekend! The young star will arrive a day late, but is confident to won’t effect his performance.
Shane continued: "This is my first time competing in China, it’s a big competition and I'm the youngest participant! But I’ll give it my best again and hope to be in the top 20!”
